The seven storey tall, granite clad building was the headquarters of the Shanghai Branch for the Japanese Bank. Elaborate decorative elements in stone as well as bronze, cast in London, gave the building a distinct appearance. The large banking hall was lined in grey and white marble shipped from England and featured broad hard wood counters punctuated by large square columns of variegated marble. The building was renovated restored after the Second World War and many of its internal finishes and decorative items were replaced. |
