Architectural Services Department / Urban Council
Gross Floor Area:
This museum development of 18,500 sq.m forms part of the museum complex and completes the Master Plan for the Museums of Science and History.
The height and massing has been carefully reviewed in relation to Chatham Road and a stepping effect of the exhibition halls was created to produce the desired spatial quality.
From the Phase I planning, a grid of modular spaces 18m x 18m served by service-zones of 4.5 metres wide has been applied to provide efficiency and flexibility.
An internal courtyard was planned to preserve certain mature trees on site, and provide the visual interest and spatial relief.
